Chateau De Septeme
+ My Favorites
Chateau De Septeme dates back to at least 1066. It had a variety of owners over time, and in 1355 it was returned to the province of Dauphine by the treaty of Paris. This put an end to conflicts between Dauphine and Savoy, whose counts owned the land prior. The Chateau is well preserved, and stands as it did following recontruction in the 15th century. It is surrounded by a coutryard that is adorned with Renaissance arcades and galleries. Guided tours are available.

Chateau Du Touvet
+ My Favorites
Chateau Du Touvet faces the Belledonne mountain range, and overlooks the Grésivaudan valley. It was built by the Dauphins in the Middle Ages to defend the valley from the Counts of Savoy. In the 18th century, it was turned into a residence, and a variety of renovations were made to accomodate this change. Waterfalls and a water staircase overlook the estate. Guided tours are available.

Palais Ideal Du Facteur Cheval was constructed over 33 years by Ferdinand Cheval, a postman turned architect and builder. He was inspired by his readings and what he saw in nature, and his palace is considered both a work of art and one of genius. The style contains both Eastern and Western influences.
